Marina Portorož

Portoroz Marina is located just south of the Portoroz Resort on the Slovenian Adriatic Coast.  It lies two miles SE of the small harbour of Piran and two miles N of the Croatian border, in the protected eastern part of the Gulf of Piran. It was the first marina in Slovenia and planning began as far back as 1974. Today it is a modern and full–service marina offering all the facilities of the resort. Portoroz Marina is a safe haven in all winds and the area is known for its easy navigation and stable conditions for recreational sailing throughout the year.

The Portoroz Resort is Slovenia’s only major mass-market beach resort and is built up and busy. However, it is a good base for longtime berthing or as a base for exploring inland Slovenia as well as the Adriatic Coast of this region. The marina offers 650 berths for yachts up to 30 metres and drafts up to 3.5 metres as well as a comprehensive range of boatyard and repair services.

Approach is easy as a tall belfry in the town of Piran situated on a headland two miles NW of the marina shows the way. Yachts must go to Piran first to check in before continuing south to Portoroz. Access is via a narrow, 22 metre wide channel which is marked with wooden posts and 3.5 metres in depth. While there are no dangers, entry can be difficult in strong onshore winds. Guidance is available via VHF and there is docking assistance too.

Facilities

Portoroz Marina has got 650 sea berths for yachts up to 30 metres with a maximum draft of 3.5 metres. Berths are in two separate basins either side of a central arrivals dock and refueling berth. Berths are on seven concrete piers and associated quays. All the berths are equipped with wooden posts for three-point mooring and supplied with water and electricity.

The dry dock is well-equipped and has 300 berths and an extensive range of services. There are three travelling lifts for hauling vessels in and out of the sea, with a load capacity of up to 60T. Services provided include general repair and maintenance work, osmosis treatments, mast assembly and fitting; construction and repair of teak decks and wooden furniture in vessels. The mechanic’s workshop is specialised in the servicing and installation of a variety of motors as well as the fit and repair of steering systems, gangways, vessel’s windlasses, bow thrusters, propellers, propeller shafts and other systems and equipment on board.

There are two cosy restaurants on site offering regional specialties, a café, a well-stocked minimarket, a chandlery shop, a hair salon, a shopping centre, a laundry and sanitary facilities.
