When we talk about boat rental, anyone planning their dream holiday at sea imagines the perfect yacht or sailboat that will offer the ultimate cruising experience. Yet sometimes situations arise that can create confusion, or even frustration for guests. One such case happened recently, leaving us with a story worth sharing – a small lesson from real life at sea.
An unexpected twist during check-in
One of our guests had booked a boat – the sailing yacht Elan Impression 45, built in 2022. After months of planning his yacht holiday, eager to set sail and explore the Adriatic islands, he arrived at the base to pick up his reservation. But instead of the promised Elan Impression 45, what awaited him at the berth was an Elan Impression 43. You can imagine his reaction – instead of the 45-footer, there stood a yacht that seemed two feet shorter!
When it comes to renting boats and yachts, many guests pay close attention to length. A longer vessel usually means more space, more comfort, and often a greater sense of prestige. So the guest immediately felt short-changed, convinced he hadn’t received what he had booked, even though at first glance the yacht looked almost identical to his expectations.
The investigation with the charter company
To clarify the situation, our agents immediately contacted the partner charter company. A detailed check was initiated, and what we discovered surprised both us and the guest. The manufacturer, Elan, confirmed that both models – Elan Impression 43 and Elan Impression 45 – are in fact completely identical in design and dimensions. The only difference lies in the marketing label on the model.
In other words, an Elan Impression 43 built in 2022, 2023, or 2024 is exactly the same yacht as the Elan Impression 45 built in 2024 and 2025. The hulls come out of the same mold, using the same materials and the same building techniques. Simply put – the guest had actually received precisely what he had booked, just under another name.
The manufacturer’s certificate – the key proof
As proof, the official manufacturer’s certificate was provided:
26.02.2025. Elan d.o.o. Begunje 1, Begunje na Gorenjskem, SI-4275, Slovenia
CERTIFICATE OF VESSEL COMPARISON
We hereby certify that the hull of the Elan Impression 43 (production years: 2022, 2023, and 2024) is identical to the hull of the Elan Impression 45 (production years: 2024 and 2025). Both hulls are produced from the same mold, with the same structure, and using identical materials and building techniques.

At the end of the article, also take a look at the following obtained certificates:
An ironic detail – the sticker
When all of this was explained to the guest, and the certificate shown, one more curious detail came to light. The base manager of the charter company dug up the original sticker labeled i45 that had come with the yacht’s papers. It should have been placed on the hull instead of the i43 sticker, but it never was. Whether he didn’t have the time or simply didn’t consider it important, it had been left undone – until this very case brought it to attention.
The irony was complete: the whole misunderstanding could have been avoided with nothing more than a sticker placed on time.
A lesson in transparency when renting boats
This story reminded us how essential transparency and accuracy are in boat rental. Even the smallest inconsistency can shake trust. In the world of yacht and boat rental, trust means everything – guests aren’t only paying for the vessel itself, but for the certainty that their holiday will unfold without stress or unpleasant surprises.
Fortunately, our agents bring more than 20 years of experience in boat rental, excellent communication skills, and the ability to calm situations even when problems appear. This case was solved quickly and smoothly, and despite the initial confusion, the guests still enjoyed their cruise.
Why do such mix-ups happen?
When you work with hundreds of charter companies offering thousands of different boats, and manufacturers continuously introduce new labels, tweaks, and updates, the occasional mix-up is almost inevitable. Boat builders sometimes change model names for technical reasons, but often also for marketing. That means two names can sometimes stand for what is essentially the same yacht, with differences reduced to a few details in equipment or layout.
For a guest who has invested a significant amount in a yacht rental, this can easily be a source of misunderstanding. This is why it’s crucial to have an experienced broker who can clearly and promptly pass on all the information.
Final thoughts – how to ensure a carefree holiday?
In the end, the story of the Elan Impression 43 and 45 is not about being short-changed, but about the importance of communication. The guest did in fact receive the yacht he had booked – only with a different model label. Still, the situation serves as a reminder that in boat rental, every detail matters if we want to safeguard trust and deliver the most important thing of all – a carefree, memorable holiday at sea.
And so, when you set off on your next sailing trip or cruise, remember that behind every model designation there are people, experiences, and stories. And it is precisely those stories that make every boat rental so unique.
