Lefkas Town is the capital of Lefkas Island, also known as Lefkada, and principally a yacht port. It is the landing place of vehicles coming over the drawbridge that connects Lefkas Island with mainland Greece. Lefkas Town has much to entertain the visitor before off on a sailing vacation. You can explore the many archeological and historic sites; enjoy the nightlife and the glorious white sand beaches. Lefkas Town also offers interesting shopping opportunities and a chance to experience the tastes of Greece along the old harbour front. In many ways a typical Greek town, even though it is a busy tourist centre.
Lefkas Town is a convenient place to rent a boat from and sail around the island. It has numerous bays and satellite islands, or you can head further south to Ithaca, Kefalonia and Zakynthos, or north to Corfu. These are the magnificent Ionian Islands, a sailors dream come true.
Lefkas Island is both wild and tame. The western coast is dominated by white cliffs dropping into the sea and the eastern coast is green, calm and fertile.
The closest airport is Aktion Airport in Preveza on the mainland about 20km away. Preveza airport connects many Greek cities and European capitals. Bus lines run from Athens, Patra, Thessaloniki and Igoumenitsa. There are car and passenger ferries to the other Ionian Islands.
The Ionian Sea is a friendly sea to sail and, as a result, can get very busy in the summer months. The winds are friendly and there are plenty of protected bays to shelter in and have a rest. Highly recommended for novice to competent sailors and family groups for a calm and stress free sailing holiday.
