After many seasons advising our guests, we can say with confidence that the Sun Odyssey 490 is a very well-balanced charter sailboat for life aboard. This 2020-built sailboat is based in Primošten, Croatia, and it’s designed for comfortable cruising with a practical layout. With 6 cabins and space for 10 guests in cabins plus 2 additional berths, it works especially well for groups who want privacy without losing the social feel on deck.

We’ve noticed that the 14.42 m length and 4.49 m beam give a stable, roomy motion. The 3 toilets are a big plus on longer days, because queues simply don’t happen as often. And yes—when you arrive in a new port, the bow thruster makes maneuvering much calmer! From our experience, that matters a lot in the tighter Croatian marinas.

On board, the air conditioning and heating support year-round comfort, not just summer sailing. For power, the generator and battery charger are there when you want lights, music, and appliances without worrying. We also recommend paying attention to the sailing sail plan: the full batten mainsail and the roll genoa help keep handling smooth, even when the crew is mixed.

For downtime between swims, the hydraulic lifting swimming platform is a real convenience—down, in, and back up quickly. In the evenings, underwater lights and indoor/outside speakers create atmosphere without turning the boat into a nightclub. Our guests who book with us so far often mention the practical touches, from the coffee machine to the Wi‑Fi Internet. Everything feels planned. Very nicely planned!
