We’ve guided many guests through Athens, and we can say with confidence that the Sun Odyssey 45 is a practical choice for a crew that wants comfort without losing classic sailing character. This sailboat, built in 2005 and based in Athens, Greece, is designed for charter and rental alike. From our experience, it suits both relaxed family days and more focused day-sails around Attica—especially when you want everything to work smoothly onboard.
The layout is built around four cabins and a total of eight berths in cabins. That cabin capacity is exactly what our guests ask for when they want privacy, yet still travel together comfortably. There are two toilets, which we observed helps avoid morning bottlenecks on busy sailing days. The overall size—13.72 m length with a 4.37 m beam—keeps the boat stable and manageable under typical Mediterranean conditions.
We also like what was refreshed on the sail plan: the main sail and genoa were fitted in 2019, and the sailwork was renewed again in 2020. In real use, that means better performance and less uncertainty when the wind shifts. The boat carries a full batten mainsail and a roller genoa, so trimming is straightforward. The electric anchor windlass makes anchoring feel effortless; we’ve seen charter parties appreciate that on their first stop!
Onboard systems are geared for day-to-day convenience: an inverter, solar panel support, and a clear instrumentation set including log, speed, depth, and echo sounder. You’ll also find USB sockets, electric fans in the cabins, and a well-equipped galley with kitchen utensils and cutlery. Teak deck finishes the impression—clean, warm underfoot, and ready for long evenings at anchor. She’s a real “go sailing” platform!
